Why Do We Collect Personal Information?

We use the personal information in a number of ways to enhance donor experience and effectively

steward our resources, including:

  • To process donations.
  • To improve our donor engagement and acquisition services.
  • To conduct analysis of website visitors and donation conversions.
  • To send critical support updates and marketing promotions.
  • To respond to inquiries related to support, partnership, employment, etc.
  • For internal administrative purposes and reporting.
  • To effectively steward fundraising resources.
  • To foster relationships with current and potential supporters.

What Personal Information Do We Collect?

We collect personal information which can include, name, address, phone number, email, payment amount, and payment method at the time that a gift is made through our website. All donors reserve the right to make their gift anonymously.

In the interest of acquiring new donors to fund projects, we do employ third party vendors to acquire information that may include name, address, and email from mailing lists that other organizations make available for renting or purchase and the utilization of analytics provided by the Meta Business Suite.

If you sign up to learn more about Prison Fellowship International through our website, we collect your name and email to keep you informed about what is happening in the ministry.

Disclosure to Third Parties

We do not share your personal information with other organizations, and we do not make our mailing lists available for rent or purchase. As described below, we disclose personal information to our service providers, but only for the purpose of the vendor providing services to PFI, such as processing credit card and other payments for donations. All personal information you supply is protected by applicable law, including US state and federal laws for US donors and other individuals, and the data privacy and security laws in other jurisdictions, as applicable, such as the General Data Protection Regulation in the EU, German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz – “BDSG”) in Germany, Personal Information Protection and Electronic Doctments Act (S.C. 2000, c. 5) (“PIPEDA”) in Canada, or Personal Data Protection Act of 2012 (No. 26) of 2012) (“PDPA”) in Singapore. You can, at any time, ask us to modify personal information collected about you.

To enhance the efficiency and stewardship of our fundraising efforts, we do disclose to select third-party vendors data which may include personally identifiable information, such as name or email, and your donation history. Information of this kind is used to enable Prison Fellowship International to model advertising audiences in order to identify others like yourself interested in partnering with us to help serve our mission. Our vendors are bound by confidentiality agreements and are permitted to use donor data only to support Prison Fellowship International.

We reserve the right to share your information as required by law, with law enforcement, to comply with legal process, to protect our legal rights, to protect the safety or security of a person, or to protect against fraud, criminal acts, or misconduct.

How We Secure Data

To help prevent unauthorized data access, we have put in place secure physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information we collect.

Payment information entered through our payment system, including card and account numbers, is protected through SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption by a third-party payment software and are not accessible to our staff. This is designed to make your payment information as secure as possible through our site. If your browser doesn’t support SSL technology, you will receive an error message then trying to access our SSL page.

Donor personal data is housed within Salesforce, which is equipped with a myriad of data protection services as outlined in the Salesforce Security Guide.

Cookies and Tracking

This website is enabled with Google Analytics to collect information about the use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy.

Our website also utilizes invisible reCAPTCHA technology to prevent spam and abuse. The use of this service is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.

Transfer and Storage of Data

Prison Fellowship International is registered in the United States, and any information gathered by us may be stored, accessed, or processed in the United States. Those who reside outside of the United States, including residents of the European Union, should be aware that the laws of the United States may not offer the same protections as those in your country of residence.

Users Outside of the US

Prison Fellowship International is the data controller of the Personal Information you provide on our website.

Consent to Processing of Personal Information.

We rely on your consent as a lawful basis to process your Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • Initial collection of Personal Information in connection with donations and other interaction with PFI, including through our website; and
  • Providing you with marketing or promotional communications. You may opt out of such communications at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link found within the Prison Fellowship International email updates and changing your contact preferences.

We also process Personal Information based on any contractual obligations we may have between in connection with donations, if applicable. Prison Fellowship International may also process Personal Information pursuant to a legal obligation or to protect your vital interests or those of another person.

We will process your Personal Information as necessary for our legitimate interests. Our legitimate interests are balanced against your rights and freedoms and we do not process your Personal Information if your rights and freedoms outweigh our legitimate interests. Our legitimate interests are to: facilitate communication between Prison Fellowship International and you; detect and correct bugs and to improve our website; safeguard our IT infrastructure and intellectual property; detect and prevent fraud and other crime; develop our services.

We have appointed a Data Protection Officer in the European Economic Area (“EEA“) in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations. Prison Fellowship International and its Data Protection Officer may be contacted in any manner set forth below.

What rights do I have?

Individuals located in the EEA and other countries and jurisdictions may have certain rights with respect to their Personal Information. These rights include:

  • Access and Update. You can review and change your Personal Information by notifying us through the Contact Information below of any changes or errors in any Personal Information we have about you to ensure that it is complete, accurate, and as current as possible. We may not be able to accommodate your request if we believe it would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.
  • Restrictions. You have the right to restrict our processing of your Personal Information under certain circumstances. In particular, you can request we restrict our use of it if you contest its accuracy, if the processing of your Personal Information is determined to be unlawful, or if we no longer need your Personal Information for processing but we have retained it as permitted by law.
  • Portability. To the extent the Personal Information you provide Prison Fellowship International is processed based on your consent or that we process it through automated means, you have the right to request that we provide you a copy of, or access to, all or part of such Personal Information in structured, commonly used and machine-readable format. You also have the right to request that we transmit this Personal Information to another controller, when technically feasible.
  • Withdrawal of Consent. To the extent that our processing of your Personal Information is based on your consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time by closing your account. Withdrawing your consent will not, however, affect the lawfulness of the processing based on your consent before its withdrawal, and will not affect the lawfulness of our continued processing that is based on any other lawful basis for processing your Personal Information.
  • Deletion / Right to be Forgotten. You have the right to request that we delete all of your Personal Information. We cannot delete your Personal Information except by also deleting your user account, and we will only delete your account when we no longer have a lawful basis for processing your Personal Information or after a final determination that your Personal Information was unlawfully processed. We may not accommodate a request to erase information if we believe the deletion would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect. In all other cases, we will retain your Personal Information as set forth in this policy. In addition, we cannot completely delete your Personal Information as some data may rest in previous backups. These will be retained for the periods set forth in our disaster recovery policies.
  • Complaints. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the applicable supervisory authority in the country you live in, the country you work in, or the country where you believe your rights under applicable data protection laws have been violated. However, before doing so, we request that you contact us directly in order to give us an opportunity to work directly with you to resolve any concerns about your privacy.
  • How You May Exercise Your Rights. You may exercise any of the above rights by contacting us through any of the methods listed under Contact Us below. If you contact us to exercise any of the foregoing rights, we may ask you for additional information to verify your identity. We reserve the right to limit or deny your request if you have failed to provide sufficient information to verify your identity or to satisfy our legal and business requirements. Please note that if you make unfounded, repetitive, or excessive requests (as determined in our reasonable discretion) to access your Personal Information, you may be charged a fee subject to a maximum set by applicable law.

Refund Policy

If you have made an error in making your donation or change your mind about contributing to Prison Fellowship International, we will honor your request for a refund made within 60 days of your donation.

Refunds will only be returned to the payment method that was used to make the donation, with the exception that cash donations will be returned via check. Donations will be returned only to the person who made the gift. Please allow 5 days for your request to be processed.

If you feel there is an unauthorized transaction on your credit card account, please contact your credit card merchant to dispute the charge directly.

Uniform Disclosure Statement

Prison Fellowship International (PFI) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. All gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Our policy is to provide all gifts given towards a specific project to that project only. Should we receive more funds than can wisely be applied to a project, we will use the excess funds to meet similar and pressing needs that will help advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ to prisoners, their families, and crime victims.
